less than和fewer than的區(qū)別

1、意思上的區(qū)別

fewer than：少于。

less than：不足;以內(nèi);小于，決不;沒有。

2、用法上的區(qū)別

fewer than用于可數(shù)名詞。

less than用于不可數(shù)名詞，實(shí)際生活中也可以用于可數(shù)名詞。

例句：

Yesterday no fewer than thirty climbers reached the summit

昨天至少30名攀登者登上了頂峰。

Fewer than a thousand giant pandas still live in the wild.

只有不到1,000只大熊貓仍然在野外生活。

The marriage had lasted for less than two years

這段婚姻維持了不到兩年。

In less than two hours Cohen capitulated to virtually every demand.

還不到兩個(gè)小時(shí)，科恩就屈服了，接受了幾乎一切要求。

1、與具體人 / 物連用時(shí)，多用fewer than, 在非正式語(yǔ)體中也可用less than。如：

One in ten women can cook fewer than three meals without looking at a recipe book or asking for help.

十分之一的女性在不查看食譜書或沒有幫助的情況下，連三道菜也做不出。

2、在與表示時(shí)間 / 距離 / 金額的計(jì)量名詞(days/ hours/ miles/ dollars)連用時(shí)，要用less than+ 數(shù)詞 + 計(jì)量名詞結(jié)構(gòu)：

In less than two years, no fewer than three coalitions have formed with the intent of building mobile handset operating systems with input from all comers.
