1. 用作連系動詞,其后可接名詞、形容詞、過去分詞等作表語:
He became a teacher at (the age of) 17. 他17歲就當(dāng)了老師。
The weather became warmer. 天氣變得暖和起來。
Soon the roombecame crowded. 不一會兒房里就擠滿了人。
注意:其后接過去分詞時(shí),可表示被動或結(jié)果;但表示被動時(shí),其后一般不接 by短語。比如不說:
Soon the room became crowded bystudents.
2. become 是終止性動詞,因此要表示“成為…有多長時(shí)間”,英語不能將become與表示一段時(shí)間的詞或短語連用:
他成為老師有十年了。
正:He became a teacher ten years ago.
正:It’s ten years since he became a teacher.
正:He has been a teacher for ten years.
誤:He has become a teacher for ten years.
3. become 之后一般不接不定式表示“逐漸…” (此時(shí)可用 come / begin+不定式):
正:He began [came] to like English. 他開始喜歡英語起來。
誤:He became to like English.
正:He became ill yesterday. 他昨天病了。
誤:He became to be ill yesterday.
4. 用于習(xí)語 become of, 表示“發(fā)生”、“遭遇”等 (常與 what連用):
What has become of the girl? 這個(gè)女孩后來怎樣了?
I don’t know what will become of me if I fail this time. 要是我這次不成功,我不知我會怎么樣。
1. He plays some passages so slowly that they become lugubrious.
有些段落他演奏得異常徐緩,聽上去有些憂傷。
2. I denied my father because I wanted to become someone else.
我和父親斷絕了關(guān)系,因?yàn)槲蚁氤蔀橐粋€(gè)不一樣的自己。
3. Many of the leaders have become hooked on power and money.
很多領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人都變得貪戀權(quán)力和金錢。
4. All too often they become enmeshed in deadening routines.
他們時(shí)常陷入枯燥的日常事務(wù)之中。
5. International investors have become jittery about the country's economy.
國際投資者已對該國的經(jīng)濟(jì)狀況感到緊張不安。
6. If untreated, the gums recede, become swollen and bleed.
如果不進(jìn)行治療,牙齦會開始萎縮、紅腫和出血。
