something可用作不定代詞，表示有價(jià)值的事物，某種令人不快的事情等；用作名詞時(shí)，有大致，左右等含義。用作副詞時(shí)，通常與形容詞連用，有非常，很的意思。

something用作不定代詞

1.表示“聊以自慰的事”、“有價(jià)值的事物”的意思。例：

It’s something to have a job at all these days.

現(xiàn)在能找到一份工作就算不錯(cuò)了。

2.表示“某種令人不快的事情”。例：

There is something in the word.

好像要發(fā)生什么事情。

3.表示“一些吃的喝的東西”的意思。例：

A little something with his meals was an absolute necessity to him.

就餐時(shí)少許喝點(diǎn)酒對(duì)他來(lái)說(shuō)是絕不可少的。

4.表示“實(shí)有之物”的意思。例：

Some people will never learn that you can’t get something for nothing.

有些人永遠(yuǎn)不懂人不能不勞而獲的道理。

5.表示模糊的概念。例：

Our train gets in at two something.

我們的這班火車2點(diǎn)多到達(dá)。

something用作名詞

1.相當(dāng)于somebody,意為“重要的人物”。例：

She thinks she’s something since she won the beauty contest.

選美比賽得了獎(jiǎng)，她就自以為了不起了。

She acts as if she were something since she won the prize.

自從獲獎(jiǎng)以來(lái)她就表現(xiàn)得自命不凡了。

2.表示“重要的事物”。例：

These paintings were really something.

這些畫確實(shí)出色。

I think you may have something there.

我認(rèn)為在那方面你可能是有道理的。

3.表示“少量”、“一些”、“部分”。例：

It is customary to give something to the porter.

給搬行李的服務(wù)員一點(diǎn)兒賞錢是個(gè)慣例。

There is something of her mother in her smile.

something用作副詞

1.something用作副詞，表示“幾分”、“有點(diǎn)”、“稍微”、“大約”的意思。例：

In something under half an hour there was a knock at the door.

過(guò)了半小時(shí)不到一些，聽(tīng)到一下叩門聲。

2.something like表示“幾分像”、“有點(diǎn)像”、“大約”的意思。例：

The building looks something like a church.

這棟建筑物看起來(lái)有點(diǎn)像教堂。
