lady可以用作名詞

lady可表示“女士,夫人,小姐”,也可指“舉止文雅的女子,淑女”,是正式和禮貌用語,也是演講或祝酒詞的稱呼語,以示尊敬,是可數(shù)名詞。與其對(duì)應(yīng)的陽性名詞是gentleman,有男有女時(shí),一般說ladies and gentlemen。

lady也可表示“女侯爵,女伯爵,爵士夫人”,是對(duì)英國擁有某些爵位的貴族妻女的尊稱,后面常接“姓”之類的名詞,和lady構(gòu)成專有名詞,這時(shí)大寫Lady。

lady還可作“女主人,主婦”解,但只限于lady of the house一語中。
