Telling myself that I was merely an experienced writer guiding the young writeracross the hall，I offered suggestions for characters，conflicts and endings for hertales.

英語四級譯文:

我告訴自己，這無非是一個有經(jīng)驗的作家在引導(dǎo)一個新作家入門而已，我就她小說中的角色、沖突和結(jié)局給她提了一些建議。

四級詞匯講解:

本句的主干是I offered suggestions。 telling myself that...across the hall是由現(xiàn)在分詞引導(dǎo)的原因狀語，其中that引導(dǎo)賓語從句，作telling myself的賓語;guiding the young writer across the hall是現(xiàn)在分詞短語，作后置定語，修飾writer。

guide的意思是“指導(dǎo)”。across the hall原意為“穿過大廳”，這里引申為“人門”。

offer suggestions for是“為……提供建議”的意思。如:

His teacher offered valuable suggestions for his participation in the competition.

對于他參加這次競賽，他的老師提出了很有價值的建議。

英語四級考點歸納:

現(xiàn)在分詞與過去分詞作狀語的區(qū)別。

現(xiàn)在分詞與過去分詞都可以用作狀語，兩者作狀語最主要的區(qū)別在于其與所修飾的主語之間的關(guān)系。

※ 現(xiàn)在分詞作狀語時，現(xiàn)在分詞所表達的動作就是句子主語的動作，它們之間是主動關(guān)系。如:

Entering the garden, they found the flowers very beautiful.走進花園，他們看到許多漂亮的花。(they和entering是主動關(guān)系)

※ 過去分詞作狀語時，過去分詞表示的動作是句子主語承受的動作，它們之間是被動關(guān)系。如:

Seen from the hill, the city looks magnificent.從山上看，這座城市非常壯觀。

(the city和seen from the hill是被動關(guān)系)
