pretend的基本意思是“偽裝”“假裝”，強(qiáng)調(diào)明顯地表露出是假的。多用作及物動(dòng)詞，可接名詞、代詞、動(dòng)詞不定式或that從句作賓語，還可接以形容詞充當(dāng)賓語補(bǔ)足語的復(fù)合賓語。pretend還可用作形容詞，表示“假裝的，想象的，假想的”，用于非正式或兒語中。

pretend也可用作不及物動(dòng)詞，常與介詞to連用，表示“自稱應(yīng)該享有(所有權(quán)、權(quán)利)或自稱有才能、學(xué)問”等，也可表示“覬覦”。一般用于疑問句或否定句中。

pretend在口語中還可接as if或like引導(dǎo)的從句，表示“裝…的樣子”，此時(shí)pretend用作系動(dòng)詞，從句的謂語動(dòng)詞要用陳述式。
